Very funny movie, especially if you like Ben Stiller - who not only starred, but directed as well. That's a difficult job - only pulled off by very few, such as Clint or Mel. I think he had a hand in the script as well, altho' that's not mentioned in these short credits. This movie walks a very fine line between outrageously funny - and downright stupid or unbelievable. But IMHO, I think they pulled it off. Robert D Jr. is hilarious in a difficult role. Not Jack Black's funniest role. Nick Nolte is great. It's just meant to be a series of gags - and I think they pulled it off. For what it is - 4 stars.
Very dry humor, boring, and dumb plot. I would strongly recommend waiting until this movie comes on cable tv (TBS, ABC or WB). Ben stiller was the best if I must choose one good thing about this movie.
Talk about a waste of good money. Absolutely pathetic. Sit in the parking lot looking for license plates from all 50 states. You'll be more entertained and won't be throwing away your hard earned money.
Ehhh...Ok I guess. I mean you have plenty of star power in this movie, Nick Nolte, Tom Cruise (who does a superb job with his character), Of course the headliners. Very unique intro and playout. Too much cussing for my taste but it is rated R. Certainly a few chuckles. A 3/4 Thumb up
I think this movie was funny,it kind of got boring in the middle, but redeemed itself. I would recommend if you didn\'t have to pay full price. Tom cruise was funny!!!
I\\\\\\\ 'd say, all in all, this was a pretty funny movie. I was not shocked or elated. In screening reviews I had heard this being compared to Stiller\\\\ \\\'s last direction effort, Zoolander, which I thought was wildly funny and entertaining. This fell well short of that, but in fairness, was a different kind of comedy. There are some parts that really are funny, and others where I was surprised at the good acting coming from these guys. I\\\\\\\ 'd watch it again ...eventually. Watch for the best performance to come from Robert Downey, Jr., followed in my opinion by Jack Black. Stiller\\\\ \\\'s character, if you ar a fan of his movies (and I am), is unsurprising and therefore becomes less interesting. If you are not a fan of his movies, you might be pleasantly impressed. Watch it.
I was SO disappointed by this movie. I'm a Ben Stiller fan. Loved DODGEBALL, so I thought sure I'd love TROPIC THUNDER.... but I barely chuckled. Save your money, folks-- this movie is barely tolerable. Robert Downey, Jr.'s good-- but that's about it. I actually feel like I want my money back!
Absolutely hilarious. Thoroughly entertaining. Excellent summer action comedy. Unapologetic humor. Great acting, smart writing and production to match -- this movie is worth the ticket price.
Easily, the Best Comedy out this summer!!! This is a real smart comedy. Well, written and amazingly well acted!! Robert Downey, Jr.'s performance was off the chain!!! With all of his film history he'd becoming destined for an Oscar!!! Surprisingly hilarious performance by Tom Cruise!! Don't listen to the other reviews and go see this movie!!! It's rated R so, keep that in mind but, enjoy a good laugh from a movie soon to be a classic comedy!!! I can't wait until the DVD comes out...
Interesting from my position as a UK visitor to see the American audience squealing with delight at every non-PC gag. It wasn\'t that funny, honest. Mind you neither was Benny Hill.\n\nPerh aps it would have worked better if Ben Stiller had handed the direction to someone else? Not that it is bad at all, but maybe his character would have been more formed that way. However his Simple Jack character and Tom Cruise make the picture.
